From 2nd of May to today.I already writed 3 writings. I got some new idears about how to write a good essay in British or write in English. I think there is quite big difference between Chinese essay and English essay.Because when I studied in China my tutor told me that the most important factor about a good essay is it's number of words and the bibliography.I usually order to write more than 7000 words in an essay and as least 15000 words for the graduation thesis. Normally I can quote what the writer said directly without paraphrase. But of course I have to make notes in the qoute. However,In English writing what they focus on is your own opinion, the reasons why you think you are right and you have to find claims to support it. In an English essay, I think it should include title, introduction, mian part(you viewpoint and reasons etc.)and conclusion.

In the pre-sessional course, I have made some progress in academic English essay. What impress me mostly is that the great difference between Oral English and academic writing. We must use the academic methods to show our ideas.

For me, "essay" is a kind of academic writing that report the result of the investigation that you are interested in. I think a formal essay should consist the following part in it: title, methods of investigation, introduction, logically answer the question that you are trying to discuss about and last it should be conclude the agreement or not.
And I quite agree about the opinion of Monica, in China you will be asked to write an essay with the length of 15,000 words or more. So that you should describe the details more clearly. But in English essay, you need to paraphrase the sentences. And this is also a difficulty for me.

I think academic essay is a little bit difficult for me. At first I don not know what is the standard of a essay. But now I understand that the first and most important things for me is try to use the academic words and avoid some mistakes.

I think essay is a paper which use to show opinion and argument. Academic writing in English is quite difficult, because I don't know which vocabulary or sentence are appropriate. Honestly, when I studied in the university in Thailand, I didn't have much chance to write an essay even in Thai language. I wrote only when I had exam. And it's different from English academic writing and essay. When I attended an exam, I did not allow to search information, so I need to memorize the code of law for using to answer the problems. Moreover, the structure of essay is different, which consist : Code of law, interpretation and Conclusion.

I totally agree with Korn because I am a Law student who are facing the same problems with him. Thai academic style of writing is completely different from English academic writing, especially in Law examination. Thus, I think this kind of writing is quite difficult for me to organise my ideas, including writing a clear topic sentence and I have a huge number of errors on my assignments. However, I think this is an appropriate methods to improve my writing skills because I can learn from my mistake.
