This is the first question you are asked to think about in the section on Investigating British Academic Culture. Post your ideas here and read what other students have written; respond to anything you find interesting, or strongly agree/disagree with.

Culture can mean the way you behave in your own country. This may be behaviours you are expected to do from others, however, many people may not pay much attention what they should behave because these behaviours might unawarenessly be learnt through living in the society where you belong to. Therefore, it would be not easy to explain why they behave in such ways. Moreover,an identity, which can relate to being a member of the country or society may be understood as a part of culture. Last but not least, when cultural difference is discussed, it may also include the way of thinking.

I think culture is symbolic aspect of each city or country. There are many cultural things even in ONE country. Cities or counties have long history, some might be short because of evolution of human beings. People have lead their lives and cultivated(devolped) their communities. That would be culture. Also, culture includes their languaes, their cloth sytle, their foods and so on. These aspects indecates culture.

Culture is hard to define. However, personally I feel culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people. And it may be defined by, for instance, social habits, religion, language, arts and music.

In my own viewpoint, culture trends to be the most interesting thing in the world. Because of the diversify of culture ,things became differently. For example, people from different culture group may have inequable body language, dress style and dietary habit ect.Basically culture is very complexity and it contribution to bulid the way we are.

As the passage said, culture was something that we can not define exactly. It looks like a tip of a iceberg. People who live in the same culture could know each other very well.

In my own opinion, the word "culture" means: People who living in a particularly area have the same habits, custom, belief because of the environment, climate or problems left over by history in that area. I also find out that the academic culture in UK compare with my country is different. The most likely difference is the way to write an essay. I have some problem to comprehend how to write an academic writing and that maybe not relative to my background. But after three weekend essays and the some paraphrasing exercises, I feel much better now.

'Culture' is difficult to define for me because we may come into contact with and understand 'culture' through our behaviour, arts, religion and so on. Therefore, I think that the word 'culture' is one of the generic words and this is represented by custom, belief, arts, language etc.

It is an interesting topic and very difficult to explain in words I think. For me culture is all features, beleifs, religion, language, education, habits, music, arts of a particular group of people. However, I think the culture might change by external factors as migration, globalization and among others.
