This is the first question you are asked to think about in the section on Investigating British Academic Culture. Post your ideas here and read what other students have written; respond to anything you find interesting, or strongly agree/disagree with.

The culture's concept refers to the set of characteristics that define a concrete community. When we are asked about culture the first ideas we thought about are clothing style, music, food or religious customs, but culture goes beyond all of these. The culture is all around us: in the litterature, in the way we express ourselves or in the way we faced with the problems, among many others.

'culture' is something that identify who I am. One's decision is surely influenced by it. As Allende mentioned, "The culture is all around us". It is impossible to explain things without culture.

I think culture is not only the tradition and custom of a certain country but more about the history, economy, politics some times even the people and the people's lifestyle in this country. Culture is the way to distinguish different countries.

I disagree that culture is " the way" to distinguish countries from each other. For that there are other governmental or geographical criteria. But culture is a distinguishing criteria between groups and communities, I think. A certain culture can cover different communities also, and communities comprises also other elements than culture, so in my opinion it's not sufficient to distinguish communities or groups in all cases. I agree with Allende that culture comprises perceptions on how to dress, music, food religion and so forth. These can be newly adopted or derive from heritage.

I agree with Allende that culture comprises perceptions on how to dress, music, food religion and so forth. These can be newly adopted or derive from heritage. I agree with Lars that we cannot define culture as a indicator of different countries, but I partly disagree on the argument that culture can be identified by dress, music, or food, because all of these superficial things can be changed all the time. For example, it does not mean a person who grew up in Asia has totally mastered or been adapted to European culture even if he or she dresses or behaves look like Europeans. Culture should be reflected from deeper inside people's heart, such as how to think about or how to deal with matters, values and outlook on the world and life. We cannot deny there are some people who have not been to another country appreciate that country's culture very much. So I may say culture is the form of a group of people who have the same value towards things and even in a city the culture differ from family to family.
